Kim Robbins Escovedo Establishes Newest Chapter Scholarship

Bama Houston alumna Kim Robbins Escovedo has established a new scholarship through the National Alumni Association, in association with the Bama Houston alumni chapter, to benefit local students attending The University of Alabama.
When fully endowed, The Houston Emerging Leader Endowed Scholarship Fund will be awarded to an entering UA freshman from the Houston area who has demonstrated leadership and community service, as well as financial need.
“This is something I’ve always thought about doing, because I have a passion for supporting young people to help them find their calling and to create intentional plans to achieve that purpose,” Kim said.
A 1989 graduate of UA’s College of Commerce and Business Administration, Kim was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha and served as Panhellenic president and secretary at the Capstone. Her passion to empower individuals to know themselves and be strong leaders has led her to serve on two school boards to ensure mentoring and immersion programs are in place to guarantee greater success upon graduation.
“This scholarship will live in perpetuity to benefit local students because the corpus of the fund remains intact while investment earnings fund the scholarship, said Nancy Mills, Bama Houston scholarship chair. “Bama Houston is so grateful to Kim for her leadership in establishing this scholarship for young leaders here in Houston so they can have the life-changing experience of pursuing their education at The University of Alabama.”
In addition to her degree from Alabama, Kim holds an MBA from Loyola University in New Orleans. A human resource executive with decades of experience in multiple sectors spanning energy, chemicals, midstream, insurance, and academia, Kim has led successful teams across multiple companies in North and South America, The United Kingdom, and Europe. She thrives on enabling organizations to transform and evolve their cultures for better outcomes while maintaining strong foundational elements. Kim is a mother to three children, all Bama fans, and she enjoys the outdoors, especially cycling, scuba diving, and hiking.
Establishing a scholarship endowment with a gift of $25,000 is more attainable than many alumni realize when it is created in association with an alumni chapter. Not only does the National Alumni Association (NAA) give donors five years to reach this gift level, but it provides an annual match to contributions within each fiscal year. Over the past five years, those matches have averaged an amazing 80 percent. For 2020-2021, the match was 100 percent! Given these match levels, personal contributions of approximately $3,000 annually can mean attaining full endowment within five years. Learn more here.
