Champions & Legends Nets More Than $12,000 for Student Scholarships

More than 100 Alabama alumni and friends joined together at the Bama Houston Champions & Legends Scholarship Dinner & Auction on February 16, 2023 at Lockton Companies to renew acquaintances and make new friends, hear from Alabama greats, and raise money for chapter scholarships. The event netted $12,302 for the Houston, Texas Alumni Endowed Chapter Endowed Scholarship.
Guests were inspired by student success stories, most of which were non-athletic, from Dr. Stuart R. Bell, University of Alabama president. They were also enthusiastically welcomed by John Gullahorn, NAA President. Barrett Jones, three-time BCS National Champion and ESPN Radio college football analyst delivered the keynote which included hilarious stories and encouragement to remember that it's our relationships that count. Other special guests included two of Jones' teammates, Damion Square and Carson Tinker, also three-time Crimson Tide BCS National Champions. Surprise special guests included current NFL players Case Keenum and Marcus Hudson.
The silent auction featured more than 60 incredible items including trips; one-of-a-kind signed sports, entertainment, and music collector's items; jewelry; art, and more. Special thanks to Vice President of Member Engagement Deana Watkins who worked tirelessly to garner auction donations.
Guests raved about the evening from the fabulous food provided by Cafe Natalie to the spectacular speakers. As one attendee noted the next day, "I'm still on a high from last night....We REALLY enjoyed ourselves." Another attendee said, "Excellent event! Great speakers, food, venue & silent auction. Bama Houston gets A++!"
