Joining them are Keith Miller, NAA president, and Nancy Mills, former NAA executive committee vice-president and former Bama Houston vice-president of scholarship and student recruitment.

Bama Houston alumni Kim Robbins Escovedo and Kip Altstaetter were recently honored in Tuscaloosa by the National Alumni Association (NAA) for reaching full endowment of the scholarships they established in association with our alumni chapter. University of Alabama President Dr. Stuart R. Bell delivered the opening remarks and NAA President Keith Miller, along with current and former members of the NAA Executive Committee, presented Kim and Kip with framed certificates at a formal dinner held at The River Market.

Attaining full endowment means the annual investment income earned by these scholarship funds is now available for Bama Houston to award to deserving students from the Houston area. Each spring, the Bama Houston Scholarship Committee reviews applicants and awards scholarships for the upcoming academic year.

Kim’s scholarship, The Houston Emerging Leader Endowed Scholarship, is a four-year renewable scholarship awarded to an entering freshman from the Houston area who has demonstrated leadership and community service, as well as financial need. Jackson Potter, a graduate of Stratford High, is the current recipient of this scholarship.

The Kip Altstaetter Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to a freshman or transfer student who graduated from a Houston-area high school and is pursuing a degree in interior design or business administration. The Bama Houston Scholarship Committee anticipates announcing this scholarship’s first recipient next spring.

Both Kim and Kip are graduates of Alabama’s College of Commerce and Business Administration. Kim is a human resource executive, while Kip founded Houston-based The KipCo & CS Gulf Coast as a sales component for interior design, architecture and construction.

At Alabama, Kim served as Panhellenic president and secretary and was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha. Kip chaired SGA’s Spirit Committee where he promoted enthusiasm and a love for all things Alabama.

“We are extremely grateful for Kim and Kip’s generosity in establishing these scholarships,” said Bama Houston President Ann Kaesermann. “The scholarship awards generated from their endowments will help students for years to come and enable them to have the incredible opportunity of being part of The University of Alabama family.”

Scholarship endowments reach full endowment at a gift level of $25,000. This amount is more attainable than many people realize when creating the scholarship in association with an alumni chapter. Not only does the NAA give donors five years to reach this gift amount, but it provides an annual match to contributions within each fiscal year. Over the past five years, these matches have averaged an amazing 77 percent. Given these match levels, personal contributions of $3,000 annually usually mean attaining full endowment within five years.
